ARTIST STATEMENT:
If the moment is the doorway to the eternal, it is through photography that I can align my perception with my expression, hopefully inspiring the viewer into joining me in the wonder of each moment.

Photography is the process of focusing radiant energy – light - onto sensitive surfaces in order to capture the visual reality of a given moment. I seek to be sensitive, myself, to moments of accentuated meaning and to whisper to the next person, “hey, look at this”. Being a photographer, “a light worker”, I want to aim that radiant energy towards those areas in the world that have been in the dark for much too long.

I want to inspire my neighbors to help, to volunteer, to reach out after they see what the world looks like when the light is turned on and situations can be seen in their stark, and sometimes surprising, colors.

I am fascinated with photographing people, especially the quirks and idiosyncrasies that make them unique. I am drawn to relate to them, my lens sensing a deep magnetic pull. When the shutter clicks and the world stops for a 60th of a second, I can see all people, the relativity of human emotion, in the face of my subject.

I do not plan out my shots, but rather watch as time unfolds and magic happens. That is when the capture becomes the release, and I am able to reflect the secrets through light.

I’m not out to create a world outside of our reality. I find the beauty of life to be overwhelming and ecstatic in itself. I would rather show the connectedness between us all as a whole people, and strip away cultural hierarchies, showing the raw and the true.

I want to show similarities between us all, I want to break stereotypes and societal roles. I am not interested in the cliché or esoteric aspects of photography, but more awe-struck by the real and gritty side of true human nature. I want to show humans as one, with each subject being a brother, sister, mother, father, or grandparent. My wish is for you to dive into one of my photos, and come out with a newfound empathy for the subject and, harmonically, for yourself.

But, ultimately, I create simply because I must. It is part of who I am; I am not separate from art, and I live life as though with each breath, I am getting closer to finishing the master painting of the great mystery of life. I thrive on the discovery and I delight in the sharing of it.

...words are only for the people who can’t understand the pictures...
